Recreational fishing rules

Recreational fishing rules

The Ministry for Primary Industries (Fisheries) issues brochures with specific rules for six areas around New Zealand. These include net sizes, fish sizes, catch limits etc. Port Underwood and the Sounds are part of the Challenger area. The rules for this area are at:

South East (Kaikoura and South) and the central (South of the North Island) areas may have slightly different rules. It is your responsibility to comply with the rules so when fishing in these areas ensure you have checked the Fisheries documents.
